This writing workshop will include a discussion of haiku techniques and example poems, followed by exercises for writing your own haiku. Resources for reading and publishing will also be provided.

Barbara Sabol is an Akron-based writer and editor. Her most recent collection is "Mapping the Borderlands: Haibun and Tanka Prose" (Sheila-Na-Gig Editions, 2025). She was named the 2024 Ohio Poet of the Year for her book "Watermark: Poems of the Great Johnstown Flood of 1889" (Alternating Current Press, 2023). Other honors include an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council and the Arts Alive Literary Artist of 2024 Award. Sabol earned an MFA from Spalding University and conducts poetry workshops through Literary Cleveland and Lit Youngstown.

The Fairlawn-Bath Branch Library is also a place to find public computers, free WiFi, photocopiers, scanning and faxing capabilities, and meeting room space for local non-profit groups.
