Join the Akron Art Museum, Summit Artspace, and other area arts organizations at the Akron ArtWalk in the Historic Arts District. 

  • Art Book Sale - Browse used art books, great for aspiring artists to use for learning, reference materials, or collaging in their own work. Find great bargains for purchase, courtesy of the Friends of the Akron Main Library. Proceeds benefit the Akron-Summit County Public Library.
  • Bookmobile - Check out the library's bookmobile and find some library items to take home.
  • Arts-related library resources and offerings - Peruse selected art books, learn about the Akron Art Library, and stay informed about art-related programs—all happening at the Akron-Summit County Public Library.
  • Art gallery openings and programming - Engage in and support the local art scene with gallery openings at Summit Artspace and offerings from the Akron Art Museum.  

Every three months, ArtWalk is held in the Historic Arts District on Thursday nights from 5-9 pm. Community members are invited to the quarterly celebration to enjoy food, music, art, and more. Each ArtWalk features a specific theme that engages visitors with the arts in new ways. ArtWalk is always free and open to the public.

About the branch

Main Library, located in the heart of downtown Akron, combines compelling public space with meaningful and relevant public library services for all members of our community. Since opening in 2004, the downtown library welcomes more than one million visitors each year.

Subject divisions include: Business, Government & Science, Culture & AV, Magazines & Newspapers, Special Collections (local history & genealogy), TechZone@Main, Teen, and a 12,000 square feet Children's Library.

Special services available at Main Library include: a Patent & Trademark Resource Center; U.S. Passport and Notary services; a Microbusiness Center; a Maker Space; a resource lab for early childhood educators; and regularly scheduled computer training classes. Also available at Main Library are more than 125 public access computers, color photocopiers/printers, laminating, scanning, faxing, and free Wi-Fi.

Specialized spaces include a 425-seat auditorium, public meeting rooms, and a used bookstore. An interior glass block walkway leads to a 600-space parking garage owned by the City of Akron. An outdoor amphitheater and landscaped park complete the complex.
