Enjoy refreshments, games, a craft, and the musical stylings of the Summit Academy Akron-Secondary High School Steel Drum Army, and the Miller South Band!
The talented Steel Drum Army will have you clapping and smiling! This concert will showcase the talents of students in grades 9-12 with learning disabilities, autism, and other challenges. This school specializes in helping all of their students learn and grow into wonderful young adults in a warm and caring environment. Melanie Stoll, Steel Drum Army director, teaches steel drums and multi-percussion as a way for students to express their emotions positively and with a wide variety of music they can connect to, ranging from island socas to pop songs.
The Miller South School for the Visual and Performing Arts is an Akron Public School for grades 4-8. They offer arts classes with students joining one or two areas in instrumental music, vocal music, dance, theater, and visual arts. The students in the Concert Band are in 7th and 8th grade and are in their 3rd or 4th year of playing an instrument.
Under the direction of Mrs. Marissa Hughes, they have prepared a variety of Winter and Holiday music for you to enjoy outside of our normal concert curriculum.
Our students, teachers, staff and families are looking forward to the future of Miller South being closer to the Kenmore community here soon!
After the concert, stay on Kenmore Boulevard for the "Light the Boulevard" celebration!
