Homelessness continues to be a major social problem in the United States. CSS Homeless Outreach was founded in the late 1980's to help those individuals who were most vulnerable in the community. Today, Homeless Outreach and Intake Center of Summit County brings supportive services for persons experiencing homelessness under one roof. The Center offers a place for individuals to shower, access to laundry facilities and access to case management to help get individuals connected to resources in the community. Each year Homeless Outreach spends 100+ hours outreaching individuals habituating in encampments, parking decks, and other city dwellings. The Homeless Outreach Center is located at 111 E. Voris St. in Akron, along with the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.
The Akron Summit County Public Library has materials on this serious issue, including "Journeys Out of Homelessness: The Voices of Lived Experience" by Jamie Rife, Donald W. Burnes, and contributors.
This program will be presented on Zoom.
