Sonia “Vegan Vicki” Steele grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but has roots planted deep in the South. Vegan Vicki spent many hours in the kitchen watching and learning traditional cooking methods from her family. After a diagnosis of non-smoker lung cancer back in 2008, she began to research various causes of cancer. From the research, Vicki knew she needed to change her lifestyle, first becoming a vegetarian, then switching to veganism.
She is a self-taught vegan chef for over 12 years, who has a strong commitment to changing the way you think vegans eat. She has focused her talents on developing and perfecting vegan recipes to not only please the palate, but to feed the soul. She owns Urban Sweetness, a 100% vegan culinary services business, offering pop-ups, weekly meal services and vegan/plant-based transition coaching. She is the first vegan chef to be featured in the Launch Test Kitchen with Aramark and the Cleveland Cavaliers inside the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse and to have an exclusively vegan menu within the Executive Suites. She is also a featured guest chef on Cleveland’s number-one-rated news station, Fox 8.
