Ms. Wheelchair Northern USA

The word “disability” often has negative connotations associated with it when instead we should be focusing on what the individual is “able” to do. In a recent interview, Joci Scott shared her plans to utilize her role as Ms. Wheelchair Northern USA to increase awareness.

"In 2021, as I prepare for the upcoming Ms. Wheelchair USA pageant in July, I want to see more representation for people with disabilities in today’s entertainment industry - film, television, and theatre. We made so much progress, but there is a lot of work to be done. One of my requests is that we see an animated children’s movie depicting a main character with a disability within the next decade. Representation matters - We can make this happen!!"

Scott, a Revere High School graduate and now a senior at The Ohio State University sustained a spinal cord injury in 2019. Since then, she has been fiercely dedicated to advocacy for individuals with disabilities, and she won the Ms. Wheelchair Northern USA title last year.
