Historian Mike Kovacevich discusses the life and career of William H. Seward who served as Secretary of State under presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. He ran the State Department capably during the Civil War, and then in 1867 negotiated the purchase of Alaska. It was called "Seward's Folly," but soon it was recognized as a tremendous bargain for the United States.
